Welcome to the Distance Education website for faculty. Teaching online-based classes invites opportunities for creativity, innovation, and integration of technology. It differs, however from traditional classroom instruction
and learning and poses the challenge of actively engaging students who will interact with the instructor, fellow students and course content in alternative ways. Instructors will design courses, assess learning, monitor instructional activities and attendance of students they may never personally meet. Distance Education is here to provide you with assistance and support in preparing and teaching online-based classes (fully online and hybrid) and web-enhanced on-campus courses. Visit the Distance Education Training, Support, and Resources pages.

Instructors who plan to teach in any mode which requires the use of Canvas (online, hybrid or web-enhanced) must first complete the RCCD Online Canvas Academy.  The Academy is self-paced and fully online with 4 modules. In addition to basic instruction on Canvas, the Canvas Academy covers administrative policies and procedures for online instruction, 508 compliance & accessibility, accreditation information, as well as additional district services and resources available for distance education instructors.

You will have 30 Days from the Online Canvas Academy start date (typically the 1st of each month) to complete the training.
A reservation is required.
