Minimum Computer Requirements for Online Classes
Our Course Management System, Blackboard, runs entirely inside of your web browser. So as long as you can install and run one of the officially supported web browsers on your computer and have an internet connection, you should be able able to take an online course through Open Campus.

Online courses are taken exclusively over the Internet,
there are no on-campus meetings. However, books
are required and some tests may be proctored on campus (check the schedule listing). All homework is submitted to your instructor online.
Your "virtual
classroom" is
delivered over the web via the Blackboard Learning Management System.

If you have never taken an online course through RCC, you will have to complete the Online Skills Assessment Workshop prior to enrollment. You can register for an online course the same as a face-to-face course: through Web Advisor, Tiger Talk or Admissions. See our registration help page for more information.
All courses must be dropped through Admissions. Call RCC Admissions at 951-222-8600 to get more information on dropping a class.
Most tests are taken online. Your instructor should specify dates and times of test, quiz and assignment availability. Check your class syllabus for more information regarding course requirements. It is recommended that you use the Open Campus Sample Class to practice taking tests online. Some tests may be proctored, requireing you to take the test on campus or at a proctored testing facility. Check your class syllabus for details.
Your work will be turned in online. Your instructor should specify instructions regarding requirements for work that is to be submitted. It is recommended that you use the Open Campus Sample Class to practice submitting assignments.
Your course should have a "Need Assistance?" button. There you will find more information and tutorials. Also, there is a "help" link located at the top right of each Blackboard page that you can click on for detailed information regarding functions on that page. You can also visit our Open Campus help page. There you will find information on our 24/7 support options (online and phone support).

There are required browser settings for online courses. Information and tutorials are listed on our Open Campus help page. Please read, review and apply the information listed. Once you have installed one of the officially supported web browsers on your computer and you have applied the required browser settings, you are ready for login.
- Click the green "Credit Course Login" button located in the "Online Course Quick Start" section of the Open Campus Home Page, or on the Online Course Home Page.
- Select the appropriate "Log in to... " semester link. Please note that you will NOT be able to log into your course until 1:00 pm on the start date (first day) of your course. Check your start date!
Your 7 Digit RCC Student ID number (NOT Social Security Number), is located on your registration receipt. Also, it is located at the bottom left of your ASRCC Student ID card. If you are unable to located your registration receipt or do not have an ASRCC card, you must contact Admissions at (951) 222-8600 to obtain your RCC Student ID number. Open Campus CANNOT provide you this information.
You should find your instructor contact information on your course syllabus. It is a good idea to print out your syllabus when your first access your course. You may also contact your instructor via the mail tool within your online course, or through RCC's Faculty/Staff search utility. Also, the WebAdvisor Schedule may list the Instructor's email address.
Generally, there is a 72 hour lag from the time you add your course to when you will be able to access your online course. Make sure that the information listed on our Open Campus Registration Help page has been reviewed, prior to attempting log in. Make sure that you have applied the required browser settings for online courses.
